A month trawling New Zealand turned up some of the most impressive mountains, lakes, and friendliness that I've borne witness to. Get in the car, drive for an hour in any random direction, and get out – it's a country of endless majestic views. Going in the rainy off-season was the definitive and uncrowded (albeit mildly chilly) move.
